"Likely parallel development of life on Mars would be another, huge, confirmation of evolution."

Another? Life on Earth has been a total disproof of every tennet of evolutionism. Every species on Earth is completely discrete, leaving millions of barriers to the ridiculous idea of evolution.

If there is any trace of life on Mars, it had to have come from Earth, at the beginning of the flood, when geisers of water errupted outward at 37,000 MPH as the crust was broken up.

Religion is between man and himself. Religion is man's invention to deflect God's laws. It places an impenitrable wall between man and God. If we wish to be closer to God, there is only one way: The Gospel of Jesus Christ. It eliminates the need for religion.

Agreed, but still, it makes no difference to my point. The existence or non-existence of life on Mars is as irrelevant to the Gospel as it is to any other religion/Spiritual belief system I can think of. Science is about the physical world. Religion is about the Soul. Totally different things.

If there's any trace of life on Mars, it has to have come from God. What He wants or wanted there, He set up.

Biogenesis and abiogenesis are like flammable and inflammable. Are you asserting that biogenesis means life from something other than non-living matter?

Even the Bible speaks of life from non-living matter. There is no disagreement with science on this.

I see the confusion. Apparently my definition of biogenesis comes from Teilhard de Chardin. That would be because his book was the first I ever read on the subject of evolution.

I believe the USA has truly been blessed by God (up until the 1960’s when people started to glorify their own hedonism).

Capitalism, with VOLUNTARY charity towards others, is right in line with biblical principles, and has given us the best possible lifestyle, and the most generous population on earth.

Also, despite your claim of despoilation, there are more trees and the air, water, and earth are cleaner than ever in our country. We have in no way “ravaged and despoiled” the earth, especially our part of it.
It’s only a twisted mind, that of a lib, that thinks that using resources is bad. You have to reject God’s gift of resources (and His existance) in order to have this mindset. This mindset is based on trying to fill that “God shaped, I matter” hole in your soul.

As for the “mansions” that people build - it’s just a sign of increased lifestyle. Yes, it would be better for them, our society, and our country, to have one income, a modest house and lifestyle, and raise high-character families.

As CS Lewis writes, Pride is probably the biggest sin. The evidence that it is such a despicable sin is our visceral hatred of it when we see it in others. Lewis also states, however, that the more you are reviled by it in others, the more you need to examine yourself for the same sin.

"Personally I think there’s nothing wrong with searching for life beyond earth.."

I agree that there is nothing wrong with having a look while you are there anyway, but why make that the primary mission?

( I see that this question is answered later in the thread.)

To support the religion of humanism.

"The religion of Humanism, that is."

Yes! That's it! I can see now why they are willing to spend billions of our money: To disprove the existence of God.

I'm sure glad to now know the reason, even I don't agree that is what we should be spending our tax dollars on.

Say...isn't there supposed to be some sort of "seperation of church and state" somewhere in the dark, nether reaches of judicial thought?

Why can't we sue NASA over this to make them toe the line?

Mars has devils! Who knew?

Now we may have gotten our money's worth just in knowing that. (/s)

Who Knew?

Apparently you didn't.

That surface phenomena was discovered years ago.

Biogenesis and abiogenesis are like flammable and inflammable.

No they are not. Biogenesis is life from life and may include life produced chemicals. Abiogenesis is life from non-life. Quite a difference.

Yes, the Bible does mention abiogenesis and it also identifies the agent.

Are you asserting that biogenesis means life from something other than non-living matter?

I am not asserting anything. But if you will define when non-living matter becomes living, I may be able to answer your assumption.

Maybe I am too emotional on the issue.I remember a childhood from the Fifties that was all about family, love for nature and just doing the simple things in life that brouught family and community together.I recall hikig through winding trails right outside my house without having to worry about predators or criminals.
Now thats all gone.its all congested and full of noise now.The trees have all been cut down and the ponds and meadows were bulldozed over.I know thats just how life goes and its useless to bemoan it but something is missing in today’s America that I yearn for very much.

[tongue firmly in cheek]
Is that you, Chrissie Hynde?

MY CITY WAS GONE

I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY CITY WAS GONE
THERE WAS NO TRAIN STATION
THERE WAS NO DOWNTOWN
SOUTH HOWARD HAD DISAPPEARED
ALL MY FAVORITE PLACES
MY CITY HAD BEEN PULLED DOWN
REDUCED TO PARKING SPACES
A, O, WAY TO GO OHIO

WELL I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY FAMILY WAS GONE
I STOOD ON THE BACK PORCH
THERE WAS NOBODY HOME
I WAS STUNNED AND AMAZED
MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
SLOWLY SWIRLED PAST
LIKE THE WIND THROUGH THE TREES
A, O, OH WAY TO GO OHIO

I WENT BACK TO OHIO
BUT MY PRETTY COUNTRYSIDE
HAD BEEN PAVED DOWN THE MIDDLE
BY A GOVERNMENT THAT HAD NO PRIDE
THE FARMS OF OHIO
HAD BEEN REPLACED BY SHOPPING MALLS
AND MUZAK FILLED THE AIR
FROM SENECA TO CUYAHOGA FALLS
SAID, A, O, OH WAY TO GO OHIO

Chrissie Hynde was the lead singer for the Pretenders.

Rush uses the bassline from “My City Was Gone” as his theme.

Now you get it...:)

OK,so thats the noise cacophany Rush uses on his show.Hate it!
Sorry,my last ties to rock and roll ended around 1969 after Creedence’s Born on the Bayou. After that,it was all about old soul and classic R and B and doo wop.
Cannot STAND punk rock, new wave or heavy metal.
