You have seen Van Halen 15 times?! I think I may have been to 25-30 Rock Concerts in my whole life. I’m definitely going to get that DVD, no matter what the price.
Was Michael Anthony missed? Did Wolfgang do anything interesting on the bass or just keep in the background?
I guess I am a big fan. I’ve seen a few of the tours twice (81,84,88,04, and 07) so they kind of start to add up. And that stretches back to 1979, their first headlining tour. I just always managed to catch them whenever they were in my area (Lincoln and Omaha Nebraska and they would often play both cities) and then travelled to Ames Ia. and Kansas city for the ‘07 and ‘04 tours and for the Monsters of Rock festival in 1988.
I would definitely say that Micheal Anthony was missed. His showmanship was (and hopefully will be again) a big part of the live VH experience. And his background vocals are one of their signatures. I will most certainly give Wolfie credit though, the kid is a very talented musician. His bass playing was very flashy, with lots of intricate fills that Mike just didn’t do. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree, if you get my drift. His showmanship was definitely lacking, though. You could tell he was still a 16 yr old kid up there with the 3 world champions of their craft.
As for the rest of the band, they were still mind blowing. A bit older but they still absoulutely smoked. If they come out again, which I think they will, be sure and get there, you wont be disappointed. Fingers crossed that they will have a new record to support down the road.
