Talks and presentations are a piece of cake. All you have to do is pretend that you’re talking to a bunch of friends. Or that what you see in front of you isn’t real...

Besides, stepping out of your element once in a while is good for your self-esteem.

The punch line was something like “Because I knew no one would come running if I yelled CHOCOLATE!”

I suspected that. What had me worried was that it might have been something funny.

I would have difficulty dealing with that. Next thing to senility, you know.

(Even worse is when you forget the punch line and then laugh at it all over again. That's just sad.)

What will?

Have you seen the movie, “Finding Nemo”? Some funny bits in that.

It’s important for Scouts to be able to do minor public speaking - lots of badges require a presentation of some kind. He could give a presentation to his troop, but when I suggested inviting other children from the homeschool association to come over here and see the snake and lizards (and whatever amphibians Anoreth is hoarding ...), he really liked the idea.

Other parents may not like it so much when their kids start nagging for herpets, though! Speaking of herpets, all their crickets for the next few days are chirping :-). We’ll have to put them in the garage tonight, or they’ll drive the catz batz.

Nice to know that you’re setting up your son in style! I’d clean out my cabinets for him, if it were closer.

I have that movie, and to date, I think I’ve watched it five times. Or maybe I haven’t. I can relate, anyway....

In our church, we usually have “Youth Speakers” every Sunday. Up to (I think 15) they get 2 1/2 minutes to talk. Once they are older, they have 15 minutes. Most of the young men are Scouts, so it’s good practice for them, as well as fulfilling requirements.

It’s fun to watch them progress from shyness into confidence in front of a microphone. Some are painfully honest. But I enjoy them. When they are younger, they are given an assignment (subject) but when they are older they are free to choose something in keeping with the Ten Commandments.

What do you confine the crickets in while they are waiting to be sacrificed?

It was 115 here several times in the last couple of weeks. I like it, but lots of people don’t.

I’m like a lizard on a rock in this heat. :o])

I know the LDS and the Boy Scouts are very closely involved, and I think that’s a great arrangement for both organizations. I’m very pleased that Tom wants to give his presentation to more than just the troop. I’ll help him organize the general information about herpets, and plan how we’re going to let everyone interact with the dragons and Susan. They just get to see the anoles, and whatever amphibians Anoreth has in her room. I told her she can go collect some more a day or two in advance of Tom’s program, which is now scheduled a week from Friday.

Petsmart sells “Cricket Keepers” to store crickets until they’re et. We have two now, small and large. They include food and water for the crickets. The anoles eat small crickets, as they’re small lizards even at full size, but the dragons are up to large crickets (only a penny more, and much bigger) which they munch with great enthusiasm, and then sigh, “We’re FULL!”

DP talked to the critter employee at Petsmart this afternoon and got Anoreth a “front of the line” opportunity with the manager. They really need someone who wants to work with reptiles and bugs! She’s to call them on Monday.

Don’t let them pay her in crickets.

“Cricket Keepers?” Whodathunkit? As long as they work! I recall going into one PetsMart a couple of years ago to see a HUGH “bin” full of crickets. It was about 18” high and about 4’ on a side, made of screening. I had no clue how they got the crickets out, and didn’t want to stay to find out! LOL!

Good luck to Anoreth! I hope she gets the job and is able to advance quickly. Does she have an idea what her major will be when she goes to college? Veterinary medicine sounds like a natural for her.

I hope we’ll get a discount on crickets, but she needs to be paid in $US to contribute to her gas and auto insurance costs.

She’s enrolling in an Associates in Science program, with the goal of being positioned for an ROTC scholarship in science or engineering in a couple of years. The first semester, she’ll be taking English, Spanish, Computer Science, and remedial Algebra, for a total of 14 hours, although remedial Algebra doesn’t count in the long term. No reason, in my opinion, that she can’t get all A’s and be ready for more math and science courses in the spring.

That sounds like an excellent course of action for her. I’m sure she will excel in whatever she attempts. I know her mother, and she ain’t no slouch, either! ;o])

My Teen1, (now a misnomer), has also enrolled in the local college. She's very enthused about it.

I'll give you updates on her progress.

I hope it works out great for your former teen! Anoreth is 17, so she has a couple of years to get on with her life. If she’s ready to go away to a 4-year university, or join the military, when she’s 20, that will be fine.
