I went camping on Whidbey Island in a tent when I was in 2nd grade. I had a dream that night while sleeping. A bear had found some curlers and decided to put them in my hair. While the bear was doing this he was struck by lighting. The next morning my head was partly out of the tent flap and the ground was damp as if a thunder storm had passed by. The finale proof, I still have curly hair.

"Dang! Radar shows precip on top of us, but it’s dry."

"Yeah, it rained a lot, but it was a dry rain."

Down at 'Face's Place, they say "It's a dry heat."

Better watch this guy, folks.

It sounds like truthiness to me. Was the bear charged with anything?

A few hundred volts.

John D. Macdonald’s “Travis McGee” novels are perfectly appropriate for 14 year olds, but they might find the depictions of life in Florida in the 60s to 80s dated. No internet, cell phones, etc.

No internet or cell phones? People actually had to go find their own entertainment? Oh the horror....

They had to have.....face to face conversations! (Shudder.) Some even met their spouses this way, I’m told.

Post cards and letters were cool.

"Post cards and letters were cool."

A mere hundred years ago, when two cents for the postage of a letter was an expense one had to seriously consider, the option of getting the half rate for a postcard made the loss of privacy worthwhile.

My two cents worth.

My kids always get a kick out of the primitive technology in "Magnum, P.I.," which was shot in the late 70's/early 80's.

I saw "Travis McGee's" home at Bahia Mar, visiting my father-in-law in Ft. Lauderdale in 1988. After meeting my spouse face-to-face :-).

I don’t know how hard it is to breed them, but it’s definitely worth looking into, at this point.

It's super easy - my brother was the Lizard King until a few years ago and he had his own little cricket hatchery in the basement. I haven't checked your list of herpets, but I remember he had bearded dragons, fire-bellied toads, leopard geckos and a whole bunch of other things. He and his wife used to love setting up new habitats, but they let it all go after the first few kids, and that seemed reasonable to me, but I know you've got even more children than they do, and you still seem sane.

It's an act :-). I'll tell Bill to get to work raising crickets; if he succeeds, I'll pay him what we're currently spending at Petsmart.

Best wishes to your parishioner! Does she practice Hindu ritual, or just not want to abandon her heritage, as it were, to become Christian?

I cannot say.

Good morning. I’ve been running, but now I’m just sitting here, feeling sore.

LOL!

Booming all night, and still going, but the rain has finally arrived too.

Whaaat? I had internet access in 1974! (Well it was DARPANET then and I didn't know what to do with it. After '76 I was cut off, other than BBSes, until I got Usenet in '85.)

I resumed running this week after about two months off. It hurts. Not really bad, but enough to remind me that people my age can’t just jump up and run on a whim without paying for it.

Hopefully next week it will be better!
