They’re both pretty aggressive, being Australian and all. Slash just pushed Santana off the rock tower where they both want to sleep at night. It retains heat after the light is off. We could get a second rock - they come up out of the ground here like crabgrass - but they’d probably still compete for one!

Ah, yes. I've heard about "Aussie Rules".

Aw. I thought you were talking about Australian Rules Football!

Speaking of yachts, I see Clive Cussler has another Dirk Benedict novel out...I’ll have to order it from the library.

Clive Cussler is writing novels about Dirk Benedict, the actor? Is that weird, or what?

I saw that. Last I heard everyone was okay.

That's good news. LoM says she's a single mother (and current? retired? Micro$oftie). Having had neighbors who've had houses burn down, I know she's going to need a number of things in short order. But I get only the daily digest of the community e-mail list, so I have to wait until tomorrow to learn the needs.

Don't like her politics, but she's a neighbor.

I’m sorry ~~ Dirk PITT!!

Not a good day. Nothing I’ve tried has gone right. Everything I tried to do was interrupted by something stupid, and I was awake at 4:30...it just went downhill from there.

No apologies from me though...especially since I didn’t do it on purpose....

Oh. I thought a series about Dirk Benedict would be fun, but I never heard of this Pitt fella. :-).

Hope you feel better tomorrow!

He’s the hero of NUMA, which is a real agency. Clive Cussler is quite the author. He wrote “Sahara” and -— woops...there went the brain...

Some sort of espionage thriller ... is it reasonably clean, so I could interest Bill in the series?

As I recall the series, there’s not even much in the way of cusswords, and sex is only hinted at.

I like them because they are thrillers that stick with the plot and don’t get off-target with personal relationships except those that have a direct bearing on the story.

How old is Bill? (I forget)

I’ve about decided my friend’s PC is a Dell clone. So now I have to try and find a recovery CD for a Dell...

Bill is 14, and he’s desperately embarassed by (ahem) personal relationships, but he’ll have to get over it if I’m pregnant again.

He would like something that sticks to the plot! Can you remember the starting point of the series? Don’t panic if you can’t - we can figure it out from the library catalog.

Let me know how much room you will have at the end of your bookshelf. Especially after you fill it with these.

(I've not read the Cussler books. He's too deep for me.)

Cussler has two “series” going. The ones with Dirk Pitt are mostly Spy vs. Spy with some really innovative equipment.

The other bunch of books has a number of characters, and in all of them, at some point, the good guys get rescued by Clive Cussler himself, so they can go on to finish whatever mission they’re on.

I don’t think “personal” relationships are quite the thing in these books. At least, I viewed them as probably less harmful than what we encounter on a daily basis.

(And I was going to ask about that pregnancy-thing...)

Most of the Cussler books are worth sitting down to read. They are usually fast-moving (which at times, are the only books I can read...) with lots of problems and some surprising solutions.

I dunno...400+ pages, average.
