Good night. Sorry for the absence today, but over dinner last night I was advised that the Pacific Northwest Highland Games were this weekend. I was hoping it would be next weekend so I could get some rest, but oh well...

So we piled the household into the car early and had a good time there. Doubly so because for once we were neither Performers nor Competitors -- just Consumer$ and we went incognito: no kilts, plaidies, ariseads, balmorals, glengarries or anything else Scottish (except our Gaelic Society tee-shirts). Though our friends recognized us anyway.

We did get tapped for a performance at the Evergreen State Fair in a month. Guess I'll pull out the greatkilt once again.

Everyone else is napping -- I get to try to catch up on some backlogs of Things To Be Done.

Local interest -- that's great!

This museum is in a WWII-era blimp hangar. Right outside is a "Guppy", and old prop-driven cargo plane, like the one parked at the airport next to my university campus way back when. It looks fairly strange, and well fits the nickname. (I'd post photos, but right now I have having photo-related issues related to the church camp and they're eating up almost all my bandwidth.)

First thing inside was a P38 Lightning, WWII pursuit craft. Strange-looking plane -- the cockpit/cabin is center (of course) but the fuselages extend back from the twin engines, joined in the rear. Very fast, memory says. Really tight cockpit, I learned (true for all the military planes on display).

Also one of the MIGs, a TomCat, predecessor of the P3C subhunters I used to see all the time in&out of Moffett Field NAS in California, one of the earlier post WWII commercial transport aircraft, and a number of other aircraft including a kit airplane and several helicopters.

My local air museum isn't very large but it dose have a SR-71 I think there is about 20 of them in museums. It also has a KC-135A that a man from my church was on the crew while the plane was in service at March AFB.

Boeing has an air museum south of Seattle. Went there once, a couple decades or so back, but we were all chased out (no refunds) because Ford or Carter wanted to tour.

Haven't been back.

My husband used to see the SR-71 when he was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. Very loud plane!

And good morning, everyone. Going to be a hot, humid day here.

50s, gray and wet outside. Delightful.

Though those camping at the Games this weekend will have to console themselves with it being "guid Scottish weather."

Yah, such is life in the Pacific Northwet. You can schedule activities for the driest point of the year (right now), but that’s no guarantee. Though I have to say I have never seen it rain on the Games before...

Rather a bit of rain in the area, according to the radar, but north of us and moving away. But the forecast is interesting for the next few days, alternating days that are partly cloudy with days of rain. Very unusual this time of year.

But now is time to get the household up for church. Later...

Morning!

We had another record rain here in Hooterville, yesterday, and the rest of the valley got nada.

I don’t know what today will bring. I just know it’s humid and ugly.

Well, I could try dropping a lake in your back yard, but I thought you had neighbors.

I HAVE a lake in my “back yard.” And neighbors.

What else do you have in mind?

The “Imperial Weatherman” looks at terrestrial weather as a whole, and not as minute cells of localized comfort or discomfort. We have to look at the “big picture”.

“In other words,” he said while putting on his hat and heading for the door, “you’re on your own.”

My plan for "controlling" Earth's weather involves diverting one percent of incident solar radiation from equatorial regions to polar regions or elsewhere.

The kind of fine control that would allow me to park a shady cloud in your backyard will elude me for a while.
