The Dutch government says it will lift a long-standing ban on pit bulls because it did not lead to any decrease in bite incidents. Agriculture Minister Gerda Verburg has informed parliament of the decision, which follows the advice of a commission of experts appointed to review the policy. Instead, the country will focus on enforcing local leashing laws and owner education programs.

But-but-but, I thought that banning pit bulls was a sure-fire way to prevent dog bites?

Wise move as long as the pit bulls are trained to bite muslims in the backside!

This doesn’t make sense. Just because there was no corresponding drop in the number of dog bites doesn’t mean the ban was ineffective. It just means that those who could not buy pit bulls bought Rotties or wolf hybrids instead. People who buy pit bulls want a dog that will bite. Period.

A classic example of how criminals don’t obey laws.

If you want a biting pit bull, you aren’t the type to pay any attention to bans.

I’m guessing no one was attacked by a pit bull during the ban, so it worked.
No one in California has been attacked by Charles Manson lately, either.

Pet-bully ping.

The country where drugs and prostitution are legal outlawed dog ownership? Liberalism is a disease which attacks common sense.

It just means that those who could not buy pit bulls bought Rotties or wolf hybrids instead.

Thus neatly proving that it's the owners who are the problem, not the breed.

Yes, and I hear no one’s been shot in England since the gun ban went into effect...

“People who buy pit bulls want a dog that will bite.”

I don’t believe that is the case. The pit owners I know don’t want a biting dog, because of all the problems that would present.
