That he died so young and unexpectedly (Think David Bloom) has them running scared.

The wall-to-wall coverage we are witnessing is their *water-cooler* conversation broadcast live and in HI-DEF.

It’s really not about Tim Russert - it’s all about *them* and their close, personal relationship with the deceased icon.

There have been other TV *news* personalities die without much fanfare - but they were old and not *close personal friends*.

This is revealing of just how important media figures consider themselves to be. Clearly, they haven’t shown the same sentiment for our fallen soldiers. This is why they’re referred to as the “media elites.” There are thousands of people who die every day who are accomplished at their craft, but go unrecognized by these Manhattan-Martini-Marionettes. It’s disgusting.

There's a fine line between whining and legitimate criticism. Dan Rather can spout about imaginary friends at cattle auctions with secret documents proving a vast conspiracy to ... whatever the vast conspiracy was all about. We can criticize or whine.

BTW, your grammar and syntax are fine. I think that knucklehead was reacting to how well organized your post was. Ya done good.

The thing is Tim Russert was a big linchpin at NBC, one of the major assets they had who could give them credibility and who could still bring in decent ratings.

This is a major blow to NBC. For a few weeks people will still tune in the Meet the Press but there is no one there who can fill his shoes and give them the viewership that he did.

He brought them high ratings from across the political spectrum by earning the respect of viewers for almost two decades. As partisan as NBC has become they know that by losing him they are losing a huge block of viewers they can’t replace in today’s corporate vetting of replacements.

The people who will make the decision will have a hard enough time finding someone like Mr. Russert to put in his place, factor in the political views of these decision makers and you will probably see them asking Dan Rather to interview for the job as a moderate choice.

Whining and comparing this broadcast to others diminishes the imaginary boundaries of freedom of expression.

What's an imaginary boundary? If it's imaginary how can you tell if it's diminishing?

Get over it is right.

I can imagine the back-room bickering over who'll get to put the torch to the Eternal Flame that'll no doubt be proposed.

Believe me, there’s nothing on any of GE’S stations I would want to watch.
Try training your-self to stop watching MSNBC, NBC, and all their affiliates. They are nothing but a propagandist org. for the left.

If I was Keith Olberman right now, I'd be losing sleep worrying about a "Clinton Heart Attack Gun".

What's an imaginary boundary?

It's similar to a " triple dog dare ", something not to be trifled with.

Will CBS use the NBC coverage as a template for when Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather or Katy Couric buy the farm?

Yes, and they will spend the week after the coverage discussing whether they have over done it. They are sick people.

St. Tim has died, my Lord. I, too, have turned off NBC.

Tim seemed, except for his reporting, to be a regular guy, but the media always beatifies its own and we won’t hear the end of it until September.

Would that they could have devoted even half this time to the heroic acts of the Boy Scouts.

It's understandable that the "newsmedia" would pay homage to Tim Russert. He was probably a good man,

But he was part of a cabal that conspired, perhaps in part unwittingly, to misinform the American people--and, in a dangerous world in which a truthfully informed electorate is vital to the effective function of representative government, such misinformation is unforgivable.

I doubt that Russert intended to misinform the public. His contribution to this misinforming seems not to have been much, certainly relative to that of many of that cabal, though it's hard to be sure.

However, considering the importance of truthfully informing the public, greatness is required--great intellect, scrupulous truth, and a powerful will to inform truthfully. Russert fell short of the mark. The entire cabal falls short of the mark.

Exactly right. Russert was one of the best respected journalists out there. He was viewed by left AND right as even-handed. He would ask tough. Questions, but not cheap shots. The loss of him is a blow to those interested in political journalism. Small wonder then that his colleagues are grieving.

The real boundary of freedom of expression exists where freedom is impeded by a direct action that puts a stop to the expression. An imaginary boundary of free expression exists where the abstract idea of freedom is impeded by indirect action that puts a stop to the abstract freedom of expression through the negativity inherent in criticism.

I liked Russert. He had his moments. He seemed like a good person and I enjoyed him on shows where he talked about books etc.

This may be another nail in the coffin of TV journalism. The passing of a guy who looks like a normal person and not a Ken or Barbie doll.

Just turn the TV to off.

There is no better advice. If the broadcast media wants to celebrate one of its own, I could not care less. What is it about human intelligence, or the lack of it, that ascribes so much significance to talking heads on a flat screen?
