Cedric Benson's time with the Chicago Bears is up.

The troubled running back, whose relationship with the team soured further because of his second arrest in little more than a month Saturday, was waived by the team on Monday, sources told ESPN.com's John Clayton.

Before his release, Benson made one last ditch effort to repair the situation, issuing an apology on Monday afternoon.

"I apologize for making the poor decision to drink and drive during the early morning of Saturday, June 7th," he said in a statement. "Given the incident last month, it was a particularly bad decision. I have no excuse for this lack of judgment.

I predicted the day he was drafted that he’d be a huge bust. He didn’t let me down.

My heartfelt congratuations to Dallas Cowboys!

They just found a 4th string RB for pennies.

Benson was born to be a Cowboy.

T.O., PACMAN, TANK, THE KID WHO JUST GOT RELEASED FOR STATUTORY RAPE, and BENSON.

America’s Team!

“Benson was born to be a Cowboy.”

Remember when he would have been “born to be a Raider?” Now the Cowboys can pick up the misfits.

He was a pretty good college back. Should not have been a high draft pick— not near enough speed. And he never amounted to anything as a pro. Somebody will probably sign him, but he is nothing but barely mediocre.

The difference between T.O., Pacman, Tank and Benson is that those other guys can play.

Um, no, we don’t need a 4th rb, and Benson’s not NFL worthy as he’s demonstrated. Dallas has the best talent in the league for a reason.

Why does the memory of Thomas Jones keep running through my mind?

Well, Thomas Jones and Matt Forte would be a decent one-two-punch. You have to have a good tandem these days and that would be respectable. The Bears’ personnel decisions of the last few yrs have been curious.
