I know exactly what you mean. There is a local column written by a former teacher who is actually not that bad when he sticks to literature. But every now and then he sinks into mindless, gratuitous Leftist rhetoric—Bush-bashing and the rest of it.

I clicked into a beauty contest on TV a few years back, Miss Universe or something like that, and happened to catch the moment when the schlockster MC, a sleazy middle aged dude who mainly drooled over the contestants, decided to take a cheap shot at Bush out of the blue. The guy shoulda got some sort of award for his outrageously timed and gratuitous Bush bash.
