Why not just enter “011” before the number? It should work just as well as the “+”.

Well, I don’t have a Treo, but in my Samsung, you don’t need a (+) sign to dial an international number.
Just enter 011, the country code, drop the first 0 in most international numbers, and then dial the rest of the number.

Do you have the number saved in your contacts correctly? If so, can’t you just pick a contact when you text? I don’t know if it will work, but....
