I hear Boston is the pits but hasd improved since they finished the Big Dig. I have commuted personally in NY, Philly, Baltimore, DC, Raleigh-Durham, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tampa-St.Pete, Orlando, Miami, Indianapolis, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix, LA, SF, Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, and Nashville, among others. So I base my judgement on personal experience.

You are right on the target.

But traffic is so bad in the DC area I actually worked with a community activist commuter revolutionary committee to get Fairfax county cops to NOT harass commuters at morning pickup points as they formed HOV-3 cars to use the I95 HOV lanes.

This involved petitioning the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors AND the DC government ('cause ya' gotta' have pickup points in downtown for the return home).

It was delightful working with Jack Herrity in Fairfax, and fortunately I knew Joe Brawner, Mayor Marion Barry's chief negotiator for this sort of thing.

My able assistant in these actions had been a private in the German Army in WWII, and even a member of the Hitler Youth.

You just never know where you'll find an able assistant.

Definitely a transcultural experience.

That operation still exists and moves several thousand people to work every day.
