Cool, but not exactly what I saw—it was literally a *rainbow* completely circling/ringing around the sun—didn’t last long, but it was so neat to see! Those were the days before cell phone cameras, or else I’d have a pic to remember it by! :-)
We see that display, or part of it, very often here in Fairbanks. Usually the left or right pillar when the sun is low. The overhead patch connects to a horseshoe shape that cross the entire sky and narrows to a white patch opposite the sun.
