It’s easier to deny that there is plans for a universal government that controls everything under the guidance of the United Nations than it is to fight for independence and freedom. Lots of unions and currency consolidations going on. It looks like the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries are really making some headway. A GCC common market was launched on January 1, 2008. They've already got their GCC Patent Office established. And they're working toward common currency in less than 2 years. The table at the bottom of the link is interesting, summarizing all of the regional trading blocks and their statistics.
