Per popular demand, after the very successful "Who Is Your Favorite Drummer?" thread, here we have a new posting to determine who is your favorite guitarist of all time.
WHAT? That’s the exect opposite of my experience, when Jerry would take 40 minute solos, while we were dying of boredom. Consider yourself lucky to have avoided that!
My Favs
Eric Clapton
Carlos Santana
Eddie Van Halen
You took my pick.....:(
Bowie could pick good ones:
Mick Ronson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8oGyGo1q-k
Robert Fripp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZbOdgevxDE
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Jimmy Page, aging very nicely. I loved both his hard and acoustic stuff.
Buck Dharma
And a tip o' the hat to Huey Thomasson, God Bless him. GGHT Forever
For instance I am not a huge fan of Frank Zappa & the Mothers, but ‘Watermelon in Easter Hay’ has to one of the most fantastic pieces of work I ever heard (Gomez turned me on to that one BTW)
I like some of the Cheap Trick work as others, I wish I had made it to see them during the time of their world tour-Japan. Lindsey Buckingham is a virtuoso in my opinion. Mark Knophler I like also.
Ever hear of Roy Brown? back in the 70’s I saw him play several times in the Austin area.
I guess it is how the artists can move my emotions more than pure technical ability that counts when I am forming my opinion
Current Favorite (subject to change for no good reason whatever, at a moment’s notice):
Chris “Troll” Shive (A local Chicago boy, clean cut upstanding role model for the youth of today.)

Then of course you have:
Randy Rhoads
Richie Sambora
Kirk Hammett
Marty Friedman
Steve Vai
But to get really obscure, run across the pond and find:
Jouni Hynynen
Kride
Elias Viljanen
But let's not forget about the ladies:
Lita Ford
Lori Linstruth
Nancy Wilson
Chrissie Hynde
Joan Jett
“Eddie, are you kidding” (Just another band from L.A.)
“Call any vegtetable” (See above)
“Joe’s Garage” (Side one and two)
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Rest in peace, Frank and Stevie.
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy, BB King, Clapton & Page.
Billy Gibbons?
The late, great Chet Atkins for fingerpicking. A close second, as a specialist on the 12 string would be Leo Kotke, but then it's hard not to include Jorma with them as well. For jazz, Tal Farlow and Joe Pass are amazing. And Pat Metheny. John Mclaughlin too. For strict technique, there is Al Dimeola, Robert Fripp, and Fripp's "League of Crafty Guitarists" and everyone who's performed with them (including the Ca. Guitar Trio). Adrian Belew. Ted Nugent. David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Lonnie Brooks, Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter, Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin, Todd Rundgren... I'm sort of getting into a "stream of conciousness" phase here right now... How much bandwidth can FR afford? There are just too many in each "field" of music.
