WASHINGTON (AP) - Cindy McCain, who two weeks ago said she would never make her tax returns public, revealed Friday that she had a total income of more than $6 million in 2006.

The presidential campaign of her husband, Republican John McCain, released the top two summary pages of her 2006 tax return, eager to avoid making her earlier refusal an issue in the contest.

The documents show that Mrs. McCain, who files her taxes separately from her husband, paid more than $1.7 million in federal income taxes—a tax rate of more than 28 percent. She reported nearly $570,000 in itemized deductions.

“It is laughable for the campaign to release so little information and say they are being transparent,” said Karen Finney, the communications director for the Democratic National Committee. “This is another indication that John McCain is not serious when he says he wants to run a transparent campaign, and a disturbing sign that a vote for John McCain is a vote for four more years of secrecy.”

Miz Finney, when any democrat candidate is as transparent as John McCain, i will take you seriously.

I say good for you Mrs McCain

For generations, this nation of immigrants marveled that their child born here could grow up to be president. In fact, it was pretty much what the doctor was supposed to say at birth ... “he could grow up to be president!” That was a truly powerful statement about our form of government.
(we’ll not get into the gender issue here)

Offhand. I can’t recall any first generation American actually becoming president. Dukakis came closest in my lifetime. Obama is a mix between being son of a foreigner and of a woman whose US roots go back to the Revolution. For whatever reason he chose to identify with the former.

Today, growing up to be president is about the last thing I’d wish on a newborn.

It is funny that the Dem party platform and daily meme is relentlessly anti-rich, depending on HOW you get rich. Unless you’re a Kennedy, you can’t be rich thru inheritance; unless you’re a lib like Gates, Soros or Buffet you can’t have earned it thru entrepreneurship/capitalism. The only acceptable way to be rich, generally, is through Hollywood.

Pathetic state of affairs.

Dems also see getting rich thru ripping off constituents as legitimate way to wealth.
And also to higher office.
