I received a notice my AVG Free Edition would no longer be supported after May 31st. They wanted me to upgrade to 8.0.

Instead, I uninstalled it and went to Avast! which I have on an older PC. Now, my laptop runs smoother and boots faster. And there are no more messages about having to reboot after updates. I’ve used both applications for years, but AVG just seem to get bloated over time. I’m glad I made the switch.

AVG was trying to get me to ‘upgrade’ to 8.0, so I went to Cnet.com and read some of the user reveiws — not all good by any means.

And with AVG 8.0, the email scanner is only free for 30 days, after that, they want your $. Time to switch to Avast.

I also uninstalled the 8.0 full version. Used too much resources and slowed my box down WAAAAAY too much. I went back to the free version which has been updated to include some nice features.

Works better for me along with the old reliable Zone Alarm.
