What 1980's event helped re-shape your life, thoughts, person and/or change your focus and outlook on life?
You can answer as many times as you desire.
All seriousness aside, politically, the greatest event was RR’s 1980 election; and personally, it was my marriage in June of 1987 to my wife of, now, 21 years.
Actually, some people's personal histories read like historical events! LOL!
Then later, when it was determined that most likely the tragedy was caused by a problem with the "O" rings malfunctioning, and may have possibly been caused by the extremely cold temperatures that day in FL, I couldn't help but think that God, in His providence, was still in control. Who else could have known about those temperatures that morning. I remember thinking at the time that "man" always relying on his superiority, was so humbled that day by the supernatural presence/intervention of a God who says: "I am on the throne, and ultimately still in control."
I pray those who died that day immediately stood in the presence of a holy, unmoveable, unshakeable God.
I saw the cover in a local album shop and had to buy it.
The store owner seemed shocked that he even had anything like that in stock, let alone that anyone would dare buy it.
Those were the days when Dan Fogelberg ruled the airwaves in the Midwest.
No, Perdogg. Wastedyears was born on 10/14/85.... still a baby!
Please see my post #84. It’s was came to my mind when I first started reading this thread.
I have that LP.
I was in college getting drunk, except that was a Tuesday, I was sober then.
Your post is awesome! I too found the Lord—October 24, 1985! I remember it as clearly as if it happened this past Monday. Also, both of my babies—Christopher and David—were born in 1980 and 1989 respectively! And although it wasn’t until the start of the Gulf War I that I first heard of Rush, I have been a majorly, big fan ever since.
I was a New Hampshire college student, and Ms. McAuliffe was a teacher from Concord, N.H. It was a devastating and unbelievable event.
I was pledging a sorority during that time, and with all the hazing that took place in the 80's, I was probably somewhere drinking Milwaukee's Best straight off a keg.
most profound effect on me? Several things:
1. I emigrated to the US in 1982
2. Got married the same year.
3. My son was born in 1985
4. My daughter was born in 1989.
All momentous and all life changing.
Where from?
Martha Quinn wearing a Michigan State sweatshirt on MTV! I know I’m being silly...
August 12, 1987. I think it was a Wednesday. I had an abortion. I spent the next four years doing drugs and living inside whatever bottle happened to be handy. I live with it every single day. Definitely not my favorite moment. Certainly one of my most memorable, which is a just punishment for what I did to my baby.
While being born in 86 is a pretty big deal (I guess).
I’m actually going to have to go with something I discovered 15 years after the fact.

Completed Master’s Degree in ‘81
Transferred from CA to CO in ‘85
(Invited new B.S. grad brother to room w me)
I am so sorry for what you’ve had to live with all your life. I have a friend who had an abortion at the age of 16; she is now 51...and has literally lived with this each and every day from then until now. What a horribly sad consequence to have to live with all your life. Some how, some way, may you find peace in this life over the decision made so many years ago.
With all of my partying during the 1985-1986 school year, I still made the Dean’s list.
1985 was the first year I saw a CD player, it was neat because it was an old monobeam player that spun the disc.
The big fashion trend for women in the 80s was the big hair the tight highwater jeans and matching cropped jean jacket and the “flock of seagull” makeup.
