HP DeskJet 712C

(Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. At the same time I’m struggling with tech problems, we’re renovating our kitchen. I truly appreciate our ancestors more than I ever had!)

Thank you very much for your interest and your help.

Doing some looking around...Ubuntu Forums has this...bit of a long read,...could be useful...HP Printers are pretty well supported by many recent Linux Distros.:

HOWTO: Install HP Printers for Beginners

I have never had to do anything with CUPS...wouldn't know how to.

Guess I should also ask which Ubuntu Level are you running...?

I’m writing this through Ubuntu 7.10/Firefox

OK...you already answered the question I just ask...So...let's see....checking Distor Watch we have:

Distribution Release: Ubuntu 8.04

*******************EXCERPT*********************

Welcome to the big Ubuntu release day! As expected, Canonical today announced the release of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, a desktop and server Linux distribution with a long-term support characteristic: "The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Long-Term Support) on desktop and server, continuing Ubuntu's tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution. The latest Ubuntu release brings the best of open source together on a platform that is here to stay with 3 years of free updates. With hundreds of improvements and the addition of the latest version of Firefox amongst other outstanding applications,..........

************************************.....

Now it could be that it would make sense to move to this later relaease..(after making an effort with what you currently have ) .not sure what difficulties you would have in getting a copy....but it is a LTS Long Term Support....

OK....

Micro Center has a store in the Cincinnati area:

Cincinnati/Sharonville

As one possibility...They likely will have a good book section and a recent copy of UBUNTU Unleased...which is currently covering 7.10....

8.04 is too New ...

**********************************

HMM!....

Maybe the easiest fix is to borrow a friends printer that is on the support list...or a quick visit to Staples or Best Buy for a HP Printer that is on the support list....

Well,...now I come across this thread:

HP Printer doesn't print in Breezy

**************************EXCERPT*********

I fixed my 712C by going into the .conf file and forcing it to use only the 712C option by commenting out everything else except my printer. (I think it was trying to use 720 by default).
