I looked into having the cat that lives under our house spayed; $288. I nearly fell over.

It shouldn’t cost that much. Maybe try a less expensive vet’s office. We had BOTH our house cats fixed AND all their shots for around $200.

And there are sometimes cheaper spay neuter clinics just for ferals and barn cats through the humane society.

Our ASPCA has funds for spaying feral cats. It’s a way to reward you for your kindness. Last I heard in Mass. it was $50.

Have you checked with your local humane society? Sometimes you can get it done on a sliding scale. It’s likely to be a LOT cheaper than that.

I pay $40.00 a cat and that includes rabies. Call a no-kill shelter and tell them you have a feral cat and they will help you find a low cost clinic.

I took in (trapped) a pregnant feral cat years ago. She warmed up to me, and the kittens were raised with constant attention from me and my dog. When I found homes for the kittens, all I asked in return was a donation to have the mother fixed. It worked. All her vet bills were paid for and she was released back into the woods. Yeah, she knew she had it good and never left my property again... except for one time. And that one time was fatal. She was killed by a car. I still miss coming home to see her sleeping on my deck lounge chair.

It was sad, but she had a good life with me, filled with love. And all her kittens found great homes.
