I’ll challenge you on these conclusions......only because that in 1976, if you’d tried to predict Ronald Reagan’s performance
in the presidency, you’d have to factor into your equation the fact that as governor of California he had signed the most liberal abortion law and the most restrictive gun laws in the history of the USA. And by that criteria alone, most of FR would have condemned him as a candidate.

The word LIBERAL is just jumping out at me. California is one of the most liberal states in the union.
Just imagine if Arizona were a liberal state. Just imagine just how much more liberal McCain would be if his constituency were pushing him to do liberal things.
McCain’s machine is putting out some good talking points, but they don’t hold up to scrutiny. This is one of them. Arizona is not a liberal state the way Cali is.
Reagan (kind of) had an excuse for the things he did, his constituents called for it. McCain does *not* have this excuse to work with. That’s why so many people say that McCain’s base is the liberal media. That’s his constituents.
