I gave him a few spoonfuls of boiled beef and rice last night. He ate that. But we didn’t try the pumpkin.

Mrs. said he had to go out about every hour last night (she was downstairs and just stayed down there with him). She was going to try the pumpkin this morning.

I spent the morning in DMVHell.

My license expired on my birthday. I forgot about it until we were at the beach. I tried to renew online but couldn’t since I had to have the vision test again. So I went first thing this morning.

After 30 minutes I was called. He filled out all the paperwork and then said “you need to have a passport or birth certificate since your license has expired.” Of course I had neither.

So I went home to get the birth certificate. I found one for Not Valerie, Jr. and Luke, along with Not Valerie’s passport and our marriage certificate. But no copy of my birth certificate. I didn’t look for my passport since it expired in 1993. So I went to vital records.

At vital records I got the new birth certificate by using my expired driver’s license as my I.D. Then I went back to DMV and got back in line. I have my license now.

I understand the rules. And since Virginia issued a majority (if not all) of the driver’s licenses for the 9/11 hijackers, I appreciate the rules.

Still, I read the paperwork while I was waiting. I could have used my passport that expired 15 years ago to validate my driver’s license that expired four days ago.

Somethin’ there just ain’t right.
