I went to Doc C. Doc C is an endocrinologist and I was referred to him by Doc B that I went to see in May after leaving Doc A because she wouldn't shut up about my problems being anxiety related.
The very elderly Doc C starts going on about how it all “could be” anxiety related and asking me all the same questions that Doc A asked which I sat and just thought to myself “What the hell?” No, I'm not under any anxiety. Life is going well. No, I'm not under any unusual stress.
He says “You know, I suffered from anxiety and self-medicated with alcohol.” To which I replied “I used to drink wine, but quit when all this started...I don't even drink caffeine now and I miss it A LOT.”
So I told him that Doc B wanted to do some tests...brain scan and kidney scan...but that my insurance wouldn't cover it without a specialist ordering it which is what brought me to him. Doc C says “Doc B referred you to me?”
“Yes,” I replied.
“Oh...I thought Doc A did!” he says...which explained a lot to me. Apparently he'd gotten on the computer and accessed my records from Doc A (they're part of the same system) and THAT was where all the anxiety crap was coming from.
So, I was literally just about to walk out. Saw no point in staying...but he suggested we do another 24 hour urine collection. He said “You need to be off your bp medication before you take the test...it blocks the thing we're looking for.” Lovely, since I've already done this same test twice while taking the medication...
So, I'm now tapering off one of my medications and I anticipate a rocky next couple of weeks while we try to catch the hormones that they think are causing all this.
Not a word about my eye, though...the fact that it doesn't focus any more never even came up. So I came home and called my insurance and asked why they had declined the test when Doc B originally ordered it.
They said they showed no record of it ever being requested.
So I now have a call in to Doc B's office. I WANT A BRAIN SCAN! They think I had a stroke behind that eye and I think they ought to find out!
