Tonight's Saturday Night Gun Pron [tm] is again a bit brief, because I'm still waiting for stuff to arrive!. One thing that did arrive was the Leupold scope for my DPMS .308 squirrel gun (which makes it a "BR", and not an "EBR".)

It's the Leupold Mark 4 Long Range Tactical (gotta use tactics against those squirrels) in 4.5-14X, 50mm lens, and the new-ish TMR (Tactical Milling Reticle), as opposed to the traditional Mil-Dot.

Last year was Leupold's 100th anniversary, so a few extra goodies were included.

I understand the decal, but I'm not sure what to use the black cloth for. You might also notice the unconventional mounting method. That's because the QD mount from GG&G still has not arrived, despite being ordered three weeks before the scope itself.

One thing not included in the package was the ARD. I don't like using "naked" optics, because squirrels are crafty, and I don't want to spook them with glint off the glass. $67, but a good investment.

The lens cap is set at an odd angle because there will be a Docter red dot sight peeking between the windage and elevation turrets.

The reticle itself is vey interesting, and will help you get a good shot on those pesky squirrels.

An interesting part of the story was how hard I had to look before I found this scope online. I had a list of all the Leupold features I wanted, like illuminated reticle, M2 knobs, etc. But most sites had an "out of stock" next to my top picks. Finally, Midway USA had the best compromise of those few "tactical" scopes still in stock. I'm getting the impression that EBR accessories are almost getting as hard to find as the EBRs themselves.

With elections coming up, and considering how 5 judges on the Supreme Court have just declared that every inhabitant of this planet has American habeus corpus rights, I don't look for a slam-bang resolution for the DC gun law case, which everybody on both sides agrees will be the definitive word for the next 50 years, at least. And it's almost certain the old leftist geezers on the court will be replaced by young leftists when they finally let go of their deathgrip on their seats.

Some folks here are researching increased ammo buys, and reloading, which is very wise. My concern right now is for repair parts that could dry up, or become heavily regulated. And the most fragile parts, and the ones least likely to be recreated by average shop skills are springs.

That led me to Mount Sinai of springs, Wolff GunSprings. I was stuned by the springs they make for guns I never thought of, along with some that I have that I never thought "springs". Even if the gun is new, I ordered "rebuild kits" for a slew of rifles and magazines. I consider these kits as cheap insurance that I can keep a gun functioning if they ever crack down on parts (their aim is no gun parts except via FFL). I just want the security of knowing I have a rebuild kit if I ever need it.

This stuff is cheap now, but if panic and/or regulations ever gets going, that won't be the case. Just another way of preparing for a possible rainy day, or getting flood insurance cheaply.

I haven't done more than glance at their shotgun and handgun sections, but I'm intrigued by their "miracle" mainsprings for the S&W K-through-N frames. They say their spring may work as well as a custom trigger job.

The original EBR ban came about with the freedom-grabbers just browsing through a copy of the "Gun Digest". You can bet they're surfing the internet right now, coming up with a much more comprehensive list of things to be banned or controlled.

After you get your EBR, think next of magazines and ammo. Then think of reloading. Along the way, don't overlook the humble spring.
