This is the email I sent to Doctor B’s office, my current primary care physician. So far I haven’t heard anything back.

~~

Nurse J,

Thank you for calling me back yesterday. I apologize for not being able to take your call; I was at work.

Concerning your message you left, I also thought that I was being referred to the endocrinologist to have the sestamibi scan and CT scan of the head done. I was under the impression that Dr. B was referring me to him for that reason, because Insurance Co. wouldn’t cover the tests otherwise. I assumed Dr. B had told him this.

Instead, when I went in on Wednesday, the doctor didn’t even know who had referred me. He thought Dr. A had. Apparently he’d gone back through my old chart from her office and he just parroted all the same stuff about “anxiety” and “stress” that got me unhappy with Dr. A and led me to come back to Dr. B.

(He literally said “I suffered from anxiety once...first I treated it with alcohol, then I went to a psychiatrist. This guy was a real piece of work and I nearly walked out.)

All the endocrinologist guy did was tell me to quit taking my metoprolol and when I have another episode I’m to do a six hour urine collection. (I asked him if I should wean off the metoprolol and he said “How much are you taking?” I told him 100mg in the morning and 50mg at night and he replied “Oh...I thought you were just taking 25mg.” which was the original dose Dr. A put me on back in February. See? The guy had no clue about me.)

So, no...he didn’t order the sestamibi scan and didn’t address the fact that I have significant blurry vision in my right eye, even though I told him about it.

I haven’t been able to go off the metoprolol or even decrease it down to less than the 100mg/50mg regime without my pressure going up and I notice a worsening of my vision whenever my pressure is up, so weaning off this medication is worrisome to me. I sure don’t want my vision to get worse.

Which is why I called Dr. B. I felt like going to this particular endocrinologist was a complete waste of time, made worse by the fact I waited something like 6 weeks to get in to see him, thinking I’d be getting these tests done and possibly find out what’s really going on.

So the prospect of going to a neurologist and possibly having to repeat this scenario again isn’t what I want to do.

I want Dr. B to help me. Before I lost my hearing in my right ear nine years ago, I knew something was wrong and didn’t push hard enough to have it addressed. I don’t want to make that same mistake again. I don’t want to wait weeks and weeks to go to a neurologist. Dr. B can help me with this.

I will await your reply.

He’s liable to tell me to get lost. And if he does, I already know what I’m going to do. I’m heading to the employee health office where I work. When I went in to ask if I could go back to work, they were very sympathetic. My BP at that time was 194/114 according to their machine. The doctor that assessed me said “It sounds like pheochromocytoma.” which is what I’ve thought all along and what Dr. B thought too.

Some of the symptoms include:

*Headaches
*Nausea
Vomiting
Weight loss or gain
*Hypertension
Hyperglycemia
Diabetes
Diabetes-like symptoms
*Palpitations
Angina Chest Pain
Clammy skin
*Cold skin
Anxiety
^Nervousness (I guess...I’ve kinda always been this way!)
Panic
*Feeling of impending doom
*Rapid pulse
Rapid breathing
*Breathing difficulty
*Vision disturbance
*Impaired vision
Orthostatic hypotension
Fainting
*Sweating
*Flushing
Abdominal pain
*Flank pain
*Constipation
*Paresthesia (tingling, prickling, numbness or burning sensations)

I have the symptoms with the stars.

Anyway, I’ll get the doc at my employee health department to help me get a new doctor.

He’s liable to tell me to get lost.

If he does, then do what you said.

And then get an attorney. I know, I'm a conservative and am not supposed to say that. But when you're getting screwed by the system you need to fight for your rights...and your health.

Just my $0.02.

I really hope it doesn’t come to that. But I realize it might.

Referring to that “nervousness” symptom...I don’t even like to call it that. Maybe “excitable”? Or “Hyper-alert”? Heh heh!

It’s pouring. My chickens look ok, though. Their cages are covered with tarps.

Heh...Hyper-alert...kinda like Hammy in Over the Hedge? :-)

Prayers for you too as you try to get someone to help you figure this out.

My chickens are huge...their days are numbered. They’ve got two weeks left...max.

He’ll finish this round Tuesday morning...5 days on and 28 off. We have so much to be thankful for. Thank you for praying. This should kill any actively growing cells...the non active ones are another story.

Mine were three weeks old yesterday. They’ve got three more weeks.

We built them two 3x4 foot cages with handles on the sides and hinged tops. Each cage has ten birds in it, which doesn’t sound like much space but it’s better than they get in commercial chicken houses where they just get one square foot. Plus, we pick the cages up by the handles and move them all over the back yard so that at any given time they have access to sun and shade, fresh grass and bugs and grit. Then I take the hose and spray down where they previously were and the manure rinses right into our sandy soil. They seem very content. Also, the frequent location change has kept them spotlessly clean.

I’m feeding 1/4 corn chops to 3/4 gamebird feed and intend to increase the increment of chops each week till slaughter. That should insure a good layer of fat! I learned that with Th’nuggets...they were a bit dry.

Good for you. Our new Primary Care Doc is a personal friend, so I don't mind arguing with him about stuff. ;o) I'm going to stay on the Lovenox, through Wed., though, because I read some more about it, and even though it doesn't affect the INR level, it protects me from clots forming while the coumadin is working itself into my system, and the PT time increases. It was at 1.2 on Wed. and the Cardio Doc wants it at 1.8 or above. So my Doc increased the coumadin by 1mg, and I go on Mon., and again on Wed., for the blood tests.

By Wed., I'm hoping the INR is up so I can stop the shots. I decided I needed to stop being a weenie about it, and learn to give them to myself. When my friend comes tonight, I'll get her to show me how she does it, and then in the morning, I'll have her watch me while I do it. She's going out of town later tomorrow morning and will be gone all day Sunday, so I needed to do it myself, or find someone else. I can do it, I just have to get over myself. ;o)

Crap and a half, 2J! I sure hope the Doc at the employee health center can find you someone who’ll take your seriesly! That’s too much stuff to ignore. But if Dr. B suspected the pheochromocytoma, too, why didn’t he test specifically for that, instead of relying on what Dr. A had to say?

These shots are not hard...I give ‘em all the time in the hospital. They have an itty bitty very fine needle and you should do just fine!

I wisht I was there to hep ya!

Doc A thought it was a pheo but the urine tests kept coming back negative so she started saying it was anxiety. So I switched to Doc B who immediately thought it sounded like a pheo and said he was going to order the kidney scan and also the brain scan to find out why my vision was screwed up. But then he decided to dump me on the the Endocrinologist, the very idiotic Doc C who informed me that he thinks it is a pheo, but the urine tests I originally took weren’t valid, because I was on a BP med that blocks what they’re looking for. A LOT of that particular med.

Let’s put it this way...I recently started a man of about 350 lbs on the same med in the hospital. He takes 25mg a day, I have taken up to 200mg a day. I’m currently on 150mg or was before I started to wean off for the urine test. I am also still on two other BP meds but they don’t impact the test, apparently.

This morning I took 25mg and that will be it for the day. I anticipate the next few days are going to be most rocky.

As soon as I spike a high BP, I start the urine test.

He wouldn’t order the kidney scan until after this test and didn’t address the brain scan at all.
