Was he a military veteran? If so, it’s free.

My wife tragically passed away last year and I have recently been in the market for a headstone for both of us. The grave is in N.J. Biggest price difference is in the size and type of stone. Two relatively inexpensive stones are Mountain Rose from Canada, and Vermont gray granite. Prices escalate with the various other stones, some imported, some domestic.

It's important to realize that whatever you do has to be done in the warmer months of the year because they will have to lay a concrete foundation for the base underground. This obviously can not be done when the ground begins to freeze.

In New Jersey you can realistically pick up a headstone, base, and pay whatever cemetery fee involved for $2,000. To give you an idea, the stone I picked out for my wife and myself is on a 5ft. base and measures 3.5ft. across made of Dakota granite. This set me back $3,900.

I'm sorry for your loss and I hope this helps in some small way.

My Mother passed away only a month ago. My brother and I picked out a very nice polished black headstone with laser engravings and lettering on the front and back for about $3300.00. I am in Indiana.

I ordered my Dad’s from these people. They are excellent. Shipping to the cemetary is included and usually the price of the plot at the cemetary includes the setting of the marker. So all that you pay for is the marker itself.
Sorry for your loss and good luck.
