Good looks and mental issues is always a dangerous combination.

I knew 2 people long ago, 1 male 1 female that were passing as white. The man looked hispanic, although his mother was caucasian and his father black.
The woman was fair skinned, mother caucasian, father black.
When I asked the woman why, she did not want to be known as bi-racial, she in essence said she did not need the baggage that being bi-racial entailed.
When I asked the man same question, he indicated that he would rather make his way without all the crap that went with being black.

Giving Alicia Keyes a speaking platform was created to convince people to kill themselves.

It depends on the person - I have a roommate who’s a mix of Asian, Native American, and Caucasian and she technically idenitifies as ‘multiracial’, but she’s all about the asian side of her heritage, and if you were to just look at her she appears asian. Another ex-roommate of mine was equal parts American Indian, Middle Eastern, African-American, and Caucasian, but she usually said she was Middle Eastern and seemed to identify with African-American ‘culture’ the most, and she looked more or less African-American to the casual observer.

In any case, most mixed girls tend to be really gorgeous... at least from what I’ve seen, being mixed tends to give some sort of ‘fashion cred’ and the ‘omigod, you look AMAZING, I wish I was half as good-looking’ comments seem to outweigh any baggage about racial identity that might occur (at least for girls).

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist."

I think we should run with it. Let's get a couple of the whitest people we can find, maybe a nice young couple from Minnesota or North Dakota, and have them admit on TV that they invented gangster rap so that black people would off each other. The CIA actually has rap training schools across the country, in those buildings that aren't dedicated to developing new strains of AIDS and more potent forms of crack. Eminem is one of their top operatives.

Once enough black people believe it, then maybe rap will go away.

I thought it was created to make some otherwise untalented black men a lot of money.

________________________________

It does. And Ms. Keyes is right. Gangsta rap does directly lead to black on black homocide.

It’s racist.

And who makes the most money off this racist hate speech with a jungle beat?

Rich white record producers as they market this crap to dumb young white boys.

Is there any doubt why racism is still alive?

Alicia Keys says comments to magazine were 'misrepresented':

NEW YORK - Alicia Keys says she's not a conspiracy theorist. In a statement issued Tuesday, Keys said she was clarifying "comments that were made during my recent Blender magazine interview since they have been misrepresented."

According to an interview in the magazine's May issue, the 27-year-old singer says: "`Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. `Gangsta rap' didn't exist." She also is quoted as saying that she wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead."

"We stand by our story," Blender spokeswoman Kate Cafaro told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

"My comments about `gangsta rap' were in no way trying to suggest that the government is responsible for creating this genre of rap music," Keys said in a statement issued by J Records. "The point that I was trying to make was that the term was oversloganized by some of the media causing reactions that were not always positive. Many of the `gangsta rap' lyrics articulate the problems of the artists' experiences and I think all of us, including our leaders, could be doing more to address these problems including drugs, gang violence, crime, and other related social issues."

As for the AK-47 remark, Keys said Tuesday that AK-47 is a nickname given to her by friends "as an acronym for Alicia Keys and a metaphor for wowing people with my music and performances, `killing 'em dead' on stage. The reference was in no way meant to have a literal, political or negative connotation."

When AP attempted to reach Keys last week about the Blender interview, her publicist, Theola Borden, said the singer was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

The multiplatinum star behind the hits "Fallin'" and "No One" most recently had success with her latest CD, "As I Am," which has sold 3.4 million copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

I don't get it. The thread that liked to this (alleged dupilcate) said she stated her comments were misrepresented.

Where did that story go?

Beside the fact that “passing for white” went out with the Jim Crow/Civil Rights era?

With all due respect, it seems to me that a half-white person automatically "passing for black" is at least as "jim crow" in its mentality. It harkens back to the days of a segregated south where a "drop of black blood" made one black.
