What’s to know? Five guys on skates chase a little rubber disc. If someone else has it and you want it, simply knock them off of the puck. No elbows, no sticks, no tripping, no holding (more or less).
You can’t toss the puck the whole length of the ice, like you can pass the ball in basketball to a guy waiting by the net. Instead, you have to carry the puck into your offensive zone. That’s what the blue lines are for. When you are attacking, the puck must cross the blue line before any member of your team.
If the puck goes back out (crosses the blue line going the other way), then everyone on the attacking team must similarly cross the blue line back out.
That’s the most important thing to understand about the flow of the game.
