Hi, I'm Nick and I am from Illinois. I'm writing on this page because I have been brought up to be very liberal on every issue dominating the upcoming presidential election. I feel like I kind of been brain washed into thinking this way and have this image of every right-winged supporter to be a redneck, gun crazy racist. Now I know that this is sure as hell not the truth, but the real truth for me is that I really do find it hard to agree with a lot of Republican ideals especially when dealing with illegal immigration and abortion. What I'm asking is for somebody to give me some things that you feel are very positive contributions the GOP makes for our govt. I hate the idea that I'm prejidice against right-winged ideals but I would like to have some direct input from somebody who is conservative and why they choose to be.
Or the other option is just to tear me apart for being a northern liberal...either one i guess is gonna happen haha
Nick
I feel like I kind of been brain washed into thinking this way and have this image of every right-winged supporter to be a redneck, gun crazy racist.
To most here, this looks like a not so clever way of indirectly delivering an insult. Perhaps you would like to revise this statement and/or apologize for indirectly insulting every conservative in this forum.
That's easy.
The Teachers Union leadership and most of its members are liberals. Big time. The Teachers Unions are very powerful.
The Teachers Union refuse to allow performance-based criteria to detemine compensation. Thus crappy teachers are allowed to continue to provide a crappy education. Meanwhile talented educators move to private schools where their talents are properly rewarded.
Second, the Teachers Unions do not approve of school choice (aka vouchers). School choice would promote competition, which generally promotes quality. Inner-city blacks recognize this as well as conservatives.
I would appreciate that apology since I will admit to being gun crazy.
I'm not a racist, and I'm unsure about the "redneck" comment...I guess I could be thought of as redneck since I'm an honorary Texan :)
haha thats a good argument. I don’t have one personally but I’ve seen some others in action...i get the picture
whats hey kitty kitty in those brackets mean? i didnt put that in my title...
tell me why illegal immigration is such a problem to conservatives. I agree that some turn to a life of crime and need to be brought back to their country. But what about the ones who work two jobs? support a wife and kids? attend mass? Isn’t a kind of cool part of being in America is that people flock here from all over the world for a better life? and my biggest question is if economically Canada and Mexico switched roles...do you think this would be such a big of deal?
but thats more on a moral level...yes that is definitely off-beat. I meant my question to be geared towards actual education.
haha next time dont bleep the best words out. I’m a big boy, i can take it haha
Big government in economy I know screws things up tremendously and that is where i agree with the right in many ways. I don’t want to pay huge dues to the Government after i worked a million hours and the more the govt. does the more communistic a country gets and we all know that communism just flat out doesn’t work. But why go after things that may not affect you directly? I think (notice not feel haha) thats my biggest problem with the right...why does it matter in a negative way to conservatives that homosexuals get married, just teaching the idea of evolution is immoral, and its wrong for women to be feminists? Give me a solid argument to why the right feels they are obligated to stop these things when they have no real effect on you on a personal level
You can go ahead and keep bashing me or you can honestly help me with understanding the more conservative side of politics and help me out.
i’m just curious and this goes to everyone...but what is everyone’s take on Anne Coulter or however you spell it. Do you agree with her takes on the widows of 9/11 and her general outspokeness on gays and Jews? Would you consider it almost hate?
Have you read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States? If so, do you believe what the documents state? If you do, how can you mesh together liberal policies and the two documents? Do you believe in God? What does that have to do with anything? Well, if you believe in God, then do you believe that God wants us - humans - to be free? If so, then do the policies and laws created and enforced by liberals, keep us free or enslave us?
Digging yourself a deep hole here!
I didnt mean it as an insult and that is what has been put into my head on what conservatives are. If you took it as a shot at the conservative side then thats on you. If I wanted to insult the right, I would of never replied back to these posts.
That is one cool gif you got there! Especially the bear being blown off the telephone pole!
Then how would you rewrite the statement? Why did you include the statment?
This is one of the first things that get trolls nuked out of a forum...some think they're the only person on the forum.
You're asking a lot of general type questions. I suggest you actually read some threads other than this one, if you're really interested in what FReepers think. It's all there, why should folks re-post their thoughts on this thread when they've already done so in a thread that's in the proper context?
Just read for a while is all I'm saying. Join in where you want, but don't expect special treatment because you a possible "convert." We've had enough of that carrot and stick crap from the mainstream media and college campuses. Am I an authority? No, but if you click on my name you'll see I have a FReeper "birthday" coming up. There's nothing new going on in this thread.
Maybe you can, but the moderators here can't and won't.
There is one word in your comment that makes all the difference in the world... "illegal"
If they came in legally, there would be no issues.
That sentence wouldn't pi** off the right, but it will set the FR Grammaticians' hair on fire.
I think if we have to explain what we don’t like about “illegal,” then “Nick” is either too far gone, or he’s yanking our chain.
