We just lost one of them in our community yesterday. He received a Purple Heart for fighting at
(Iwo Jima, 1945,) He said he was there, and viewed the the raising of the flag, pic. by Joe Rosenthal.
There were two raising’s of the flag according to him, one for real, the other for Mr. Rosenthal and, the press.
Strange how those vets returned home and led productive lives.
This man was one the hardest working people in our area. Worked in manufacturing for forty four years and, ran a large farm consisting of over caring for over one hundred cattle, tobacco, grain and grass.
I think it’s odd that we had a racially segragated unit that fought so hard for our country, and now we have guys like obama’s minister trying to stop members of his race from joining the military at all.
