If The Thomas Crown Affair 2 is only one-eighth as good as the classy remake with Brosnan of the older version with Steve McQueen, it will be still worth seeing. I wonder if Rene Russo is going to be involved? That version is a great movie with superb writing and surpassed the original in class. It is one of my favorites.

I just finished reading a nice new book “McQueen’s Machines” by Matt Stone with assistance from Steve’s son Chad. There are brief descriptions of all the vehicles McQueen drove in movies, with a fair number of still photos, and extensive documentation on later histories (most are still in existence). The beach buggy in The Thomas Crown Affair was basically a Meyers Manx with hopped-up Corvair engine. Of course Steve himself did all the driving and Faye Dunaway herself did all the death-seat duty. And don’t forget Tommy Crown’s Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Like nearly car and bike he drove in films, McQueen wound up owning both of them at least briefly.
