For whatever reason, Mr. Obama has failed to do what Mr. Clinton did in 1992 run as a "new" Democrat who favors some conservative policies (ending welfare as we know it, supporting free trade, criticizing the "butchers of Beijing," and famously criticizing Sister Souljah).
Now, I know my memory isn't what it used to be, but didn't Clinton veto the welfare reform bills at least twice? IOW, before being basically forced to finally sign on?
In view of the Chinese funny-money campaign contributions, the "butchers of Beijing" comment was clearly rhetoric to appeal to voters and the WSJ using it as an example of Clintoon favoring conservative policies is both laughable and disappointing.
Regarding Sistah Souljah.....while I remember about her "never met a decent white person" comment.....I don't recall Clinton's supposed denouncement of her and would speculate that her inflamed racism claims FORCED him into making a public statement againt them, similar to Obama and Jeremiah Wright.
Or am I not remember correctly about these instances??
I seem to remember he confronted, quite forcefully, and she had some sort of a response, Jessie J was there while the confrontation went on, but I can’t remember what was said, but it “proved” he was not afraid to confront a Negro when he disagreed with them.
Well, prairie, we all know that one does not necessarily keep those positions or promises once in office. So in my opinion, Clinton was just running true to form.
I don't rememberthe Sistah Suljah incident at all. Call it a senior monment if you will, but I just can't recall it myself. BUT I believe it! Did he support freetrade? Is this writer referring to NAFTA? Isn't it widely purported that NAFTA has lost many jobs for Americans?
