Only because, according to the article, that the hacker hadn't expected to crack SP1. So he had to rework his hack, and call in a couple of friends. Now if he had gone into it with the expectation of SP1, I suspect it might have been a little quicker.

What's telling though is, that they relaxed security towards the end, and Linux still remained untouched.
