Today in music history
Alan Freed, the American D.J. who coined the term rock and roll, had his 1952 Rock n Roll Stage Show at a local arena cancelled when 30000 fans overcrowded the venue. Fire regulations allowed only 10000.
The Guess Who released their biggest hit, American Woman, this week in 1970. Randy Bachman left the band four months later because of religious conflicts with the rock and roll lifestyle. Burton Cummings carried the band until 1975.
Bob Dylans song, Hurricane, caused enough publicity to get Rubin Hurricane Carter released from jail in 1976. The song promoted Carters innocence and is from the 1975 album, Desire.
Strawberry Fields, an area in Central Park bought by Yoko Ono in memory of her late husband was opened in 1984.

He is one geeky lookin dude, but that is a great song. I’ll bet he’s still getting a fat royalty check off of it.
Yes, that would have been an improvement!
This is a Genesis tribute band called The Musical Box doing The Battle of Epping Forest
Bad audio on this vid, but they are outstanding live. If they come to a venue near you, go see them.
That is a great groove. I wonder if the drums are sampled or live. Did the BB’s actually play the instruments?
Here’s a guy doing a very cool version of the Sanford & Son theme song on electric guitar:

Colin Blunstone, of the Zombies, also sang on a couple of my favorite Alan Parsons Project songs (’Old and Wise’, ‘The Eagle Will Rise Again’, are two that come to mind).
Great music, but that sure sounded like “Greensleeves”.... or was it supposed to?
That whole “Pyramid” album is great.

Some Cowbell with a cool video (dont know what it means though ;)
Another awesome song, Ian Bairnson's guitar solo is awesome on that one, I thought for years that was David Gilmour.
Here's another theme song I love. Groovy bass.
