"Dont mess with the Dalai Lama." That thought did cross my mind.

I sometimes read that the Chinese are extremely superstitious, and wary of perceived omens, signs and portents. We see the rather nutty inclination toward feng shui (sp?) spells to clear new buildings of evil spirits, and take it in a lighthearted way.
But is there a more serious side? With the rare blizzards, unrest in Tibet, problems with the Gorges Dam, and now this earthquake, will Chinese start thinking “uh oh, this is a BAD year....” And with the all-important Olympics around the corner.....
I'm just fishing for insight into Chinese social psychology, in 2008.

Let us just hope that the Dictatorial RED Leadership of the CCP indeed "lives in interesting times."
I only regret when average people have to suffer with their lives and property.

What surprises me, is this earthquake happened yesterday, and the cable news networks have avoided it totally. I wonder what is going on?

Wow! Another one. Is this one also so far from anybody that nobody would notice if the USGS hadn’t picked it up on its sensitive detectors?

7.2 is not a big earthquake, western China is not highly populated, and western media are unlikely to have camera crews there. No video footage means they’re not interested

Hope it was close enough to collapse UBL’s cave!
