I’m genuinely destroyed by this. My mother related her hurt when Sagan died. This is huge for me. He was an illuminary for me, a child who read his works voraciously.

I would bet so. I also don’t think he found God before he died. THAT is probably the saddest thing.

Clark gave us the geosynchronous communications satellite. A great mind.

He was molesting little boys over there, IIRC

That story was a fabrication, and has been debunked here many times.

Indeed a loss. I enjoyed his books, particularly "Childhood's End."

Went on and on about how awful we were for using nukes, for one thing. A good writer, but as usual, needed to be kept away from any kind of political power.

RIP for the last of the giants. And those who walk in his shadow would be the first to tell you that. BTT.

Arthur C. Clarke and I were both users of Kaypro computers back in the early 80's.

Neither of us saw much a future to these IBM things...

You recall incorrectly, I have never heard such a thing. Arthur C. Clarke was gay, he was I believe an atheist as well. But he was a great writer who basically invented the concept of the geosynchronous satellite, and had a hand in the invention of radar.

He was molesting little boys over there, IIRC.

Debunked myth started by a trash British Tabloid. The Mirror later retracted their own story and a police investigation found none of it was true.

2001 was my very first sci-fi read at the age of 12. It’s still one of my favorites.

The last of the old sci-fi masters...

Ray Bradbury is probably the only one left. I think the very first sci-fi book I read was "S is for Space."

That was what the Brit tabloids made up. He was cleared of all charges.

Pure slander on the part of The Sunday Mirror and they later printed a retraction
