Funny... but I have met a American engineering grad student from this premium “first world” who doesnt know how to differentiate or integrate a simple sinusoidal function.
When I was surprised about it, he said he knew what it was, but he didnt need to remember it. Obviously its not important to remember d/dx(cos x) = -sinx, and still this guy gets into grad school, and is in good shape to graduate with a “thesis” ! Scariest thing was he was majoring in electrical Engineering specializing in DSP (digital signal processing)!!
Some of my friends at IIT-Bombay were infinitely smarter than the grad students I met here.. and some of them couldn’t afford to go for higher studies either in US or India and ended up working in the software industry. Good thing is, they are probably going to bring the average IQ of the places they join by at least a few standard deviations higher.
On an average, I dont think most Americans or Indians are smarter.. infact, the average IQ of the entire planet is dropping down and people are becoming dumber and dumber as time goes by.. people are the same everywhere, its just that Indian students are pushed harder in science and math.
Ok, I am totally stumped as to how that formula would increase the profits of my company.
This is exactly the attitude that I have been fighting against for the last 35 years.
I do not give a darn what you did in college, but what can you achieve today!
No problem with that statement. Ask them if they have ever analyzed the climate data themselves.
Those that have looked at the actual data are horrified. Those that only listen to what they are told, believe.
That alone, is one outstanding test.
