It's not a matter of rights for animals....they have no rights....it's a matter US HUMANS being decent and doing the right thing....and blowing them away is not the right thing.

If the lady didn't take sick cats to the vet, I agree that she should be charged. And I can't believe that the you or the cops had the right to blow these cats away instead of calling the proper authorities to properly euthanize them. Now THAT would be spreading some disease around. Sounds like a dangerous backwards town.
I think the situation could of been handled differntly if just for your kids sake. I'm sorry they got bit, but it didn't have to turn into a KILL THE CATS occasion. Now your kids will be afraid of them and will believe it's ok to shoot them because they have no home or are sick.
PS...some feral cats ARE friendly.

That was a response to you stating that ‘I would wish YOU were there (with your guns) in specific situations.’ I’m telling you I can take care of myself because ‘I carry my own guns.’

You and I are philosophically divided by a mindset. You might "LIVE" in the country. But we live "IN" the country.

You think we like killing things? There's no joy in killing things. A person who enjoys killing has a serious problem. Before the Deputies from Animal Control starting shooting cats, even I wondered if they couldn't trap, or dart them or something. I know one of the Animal Control Deputies, and he looked at me and said, "Now you know it's just me and him covering the entire county (pointing at his partner). Do YOU want to trap them?"

Yes. Shooting them was the right thing. The ones that weren't dead were dying, and those that weren't dying were too wild to approach. We did end up with two kittens from the whole dreadful ordeal, which tested positive for feline leukemia at their first vet visit, and died less than a year later because of it.

Quit talking about my kids like you know them. You DON'T. Two weeks ago we birthed our first goat kids of this kidding season, and lost one. It was a breach presentation and died from stress we think. Try as we did, we couldn't revive it, and it was difficult for all of us to deal with. My daughter and wife both cried as we looked at the lifeless little buck who grew inside of his dam only to be killed during delivery...and then for us not to be able to revive it. But, last season we had a "smallish" doe with a stuck kid and my daughter was the only one with a small enough hand and arm to reach in and turn it. We saved two doe kids because of her and were overjoyed.

I'm telling you these things because life is tough lady. We take the good with the bad. Sometimes we save things, sometimes we simply can't..things die and sometimes things have to be killed.

I don't hate feral cats, nor do I take any great pleasure in killing them. But I understand them for what they are...destructive, disease carriers. It's not right that somebody dropped them off out near where we live, and it's not right that people such as our neighbors permit them to reproduce prolifically without proper care. But such is life. The end result was STILL that I had a serious feral cat problem. Neither you nor anybody else is qualified to criticize me about how I handled it, or tell me what a bad example I was to my children, or how they're going to grow up being torturers and killers of animals.

Give me a freaking break.

you post all that drivel and unproven crap from teh bird society?

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Society actually. They're hardly a 'bird society'.

And go to http://www.alleycat.org/ to learn the truth about homeless cats.

A cat society? Truth? A bunch of whacked out old ladies most likely....

And songbirds carry and leave disaese in your lawn....IF cats were actually killing these birds, they'd be doing humans a favor.

Didn't know I was dealing with a sick bird hater....

This county --PB---tried to legalize the shooting of feral cats for the FWC too -like Wisconsin....a few years ago. When the feral cat society got them on the phone --they forgot to hang up the phone at the end of the conversation. The Feral cat people ..have ON TAPE, the officer stating he 'couldn't wait to get out and blow the cats away'...and everyone in the room laughed with him. This is the Florida Wildlife Commission....the ones who blew away Bobo-- that tiger of Steve Sipek (he played tarzan) in Loxahatchee. The FWC is not too respected in this county....they are bunch of low life coward losers.

Clarify that please? Are you suggesting that you'd like to meet me while you are armed?

“It’s sad to know there are barbarians in here....”

I am not a barbarian.
I love cats and other mammals. They are excellent protein sources

"I think the county here should get something here, get a (animal control) department like Omaha and Council Bluffs," says Wederquist.

I wonder what this idiot thinks the animal control departments do with unclaimed strays...

On the other hand, there are a number of no-kill shelters in IA, I'd suggest that she support them with her own dollars. It's not cheap to run these things. But my guess is that she's a liberal, which means that it's an OPM problem (Other People's Money).

Cats have claws and Hunting skills from GOD for a reason.

So do wolves and bears and mountain lions. Do you want them running around in your neighborhood?

It is a form of cruelty to keep cats inside all the time....they aren’t meant for that.

I disagree. Cats do wonderfully indoors, as long as that's how they've been raised (though many who were once "outdoor cats" do quite well, without bolting for an open door or window.) And as a cat lover and longtime cat owner, I've seen indoor cats lead longer, happier lives than outdoor cats. I've had outdoor cats hit by cars, attacked by other animals, and even the neutered males will still get into fights.

The fact is that responsible pet owners will keep their pets under their control. And if they do escape, which does sometimes happen, they'll have identification to have them returned.

My kid just adopted a “pound dog” - actually, a really beautifull German Sheperd.

So far, his “adoption” has cost me north of $500 in deworming treatments, etc.

Feral cats DON't spread disease....it's a lie.

Really? I had an (outdoor) cat that the vet had to put down, having picked up feline aids from another cat, and not any of the neighbors' cats.

I know what you mean. I once had the most adorable little cat, and surgery to fix a "detached diaphragm" cost me about $600.

I have a friend in Des Moines who's an animal lover (and she supports PETA - ugh) who's terribly hard to buy a birthday present for: For her birthday, I got her a gift "adoption" for an animal at "Animal Lifeline," a no-kill shelter for animals that can't be adopted. It was a couple of hundred dollars to help them pay the huge bills that it costs to run. It's a good organization for people like her, and it keeps her from donating money to PETA!

That is not only funny, it is devious.

At least my kid got a GS out of the deal.

I thought we were referring to passing on diseases to people. It’s birds that can give you tons of diseases.....I suppose if you get scratched or bitten by any animal, it can make you sick.

I forgot to mention Fawn, when I was younger, we used to shoot cats, bar-b-q the meat and skin their hides then hang them on the wall in the living room. But because cats are notorious for shedding, we had nothing but a pile of fur on the floor by spring time.......it was awful on the alergies.

Chicken Fried Squirrel

~ quartered and cleaned squirrels, 1 per person

~ buttermilk

~ OldBay seasoning

~ flour

~ salt & pepper

~ shortening

Soak your meat for at least an hour in buttermilk.

Combine the flour & OldBay until you can see the flour turn light pink. Sprinkle in some salt and pepper to taste.

Heat up your shortening to 375 degrees in a iron skillet or deep fryer deep enough to cover the meat.

Roll or shake your meat in the flour mix and fry until the coating is golden brown.

Take it out and place it on a rack to drain. Place it in your oven for about 1/2 hour at 275 degrees.

Serve and Enjoy!
