Agreed. As a Seasoned Citizen who grew up in that era, loved their hard pounding guitar sounds. Still have many of their hits including my favorite, Walk Don't Run.
As an aside, when is the last time anyone heard a group record an instrumental?
I like Cohen but he's more...something-or other, than rock.
Madonna is about as rock and roll as Mr. Rogers.
The R&R Hall of Fame is over if they're admitting canned, disco-pop acts now.
Madonna, who isnt anything close to rock and roll, gets in before the Moody Blues?
Congratulations to the Ventures. I met and worked briefly with Bob Bogle of the Ventures in the early 1980’s. I had a small recording studio in Vancouver, WA where he lived. He played bass on some recordings we made in the 1980’s. He is a very nice, humble guy and shared some great stories with us of the early years of the Ventures.
The Ventures had more influence on what happened in Rock n’ Roll in the 60’s and 70’s than most people realize.
“Perfidia” has lasted the longest to my ear.
She was probably the token female for 2008.(Patti Smith 2007, Blondie 2006...)
Good for the Ventures. ‘bout time.
Melloncamp, I don’t care either way.
Leonard Cohen...wonderful writer but not a rocker. Deserves fame and fortune but not at the RandR HoF.
Modanna: Lots of geezers hate her persona which is a prime requirement for R&R cred. The Jim Backus crowd of the 21st century: “What’s all that caterwalling in there? Kids today!...harumph, harumph.” OTOH, she is, to me, like a few others, famous, popular but with forgettable music. Can you huma few of her songs? I can’t. I find Elvis Costello the same way.
DC5...Actually, English footballers who after a night at the pub said, “Hey, me mate Dave here ‘as a drum kit..Let’s start a band!” They recorded “Glad All Over” They then re-recorded it about 50 more times using different titles. They should sue themselves for plagarism.
Gamble and Huff: Absolutely. You betcha.
Sad day when Delph checked-out. He and Steve Perry had the BEST voices ever! I was lucky enough to see Boston twice in their hey-day. A better show you could not ask for. The music was a little lacking since they are a great studio band but they like the crowd and played to them.
Bang on!
Agree with you on E. Costello, too.
The Ventures... Awesome. Now, where’s Dick Dale?
And speaking of, is it really considered The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame if it doesn’t include The Doobie Brothers?
It isn’t a REAL Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until they induct the Motor City Madman, the 10 Fingers of Doom, True North BloodBrother #1 TED NUGENT.
Of course, the chances of that happening with the liberal wackos who run the thing and do the voting are somewhere between Slim and None, and Slim just left town.
I’ll pass, thank you.
Whenever I think Rock and Roll, I do not think Leonard Cohen.
It’s all rock n’ roll to me.
Considering the acts “voted into” the “Rock N Roll” HOF, I don’t think Geddy, Alex and Neil belong in such company. I think they are far better, myself...
They will never ensconce Yes in there either.
Jann Wenner hates prog. Always has, always will. Therefore, no prog acts or even those resembling prog will make the R&R HOF. It’s a one-man voting committee, and Jann is it.
Rush is touring through Texas again next month and I am taking a bunch of fellows to see them. Hopefully the chickens will be done by then. (Heh!)
