I think you are mistaken. The swing out bayonet is on the SKS rifle, not the moisin nagant.

Nope. American 30 calibers are different than the foreign ones.

The old saying I grew up with was that if you stand at the goal post with a 30 carbine and shoot at the other goal post, the bullet can be stopped with a catcher’s mitt.

I think you are mistaken. The swing out bayonet is on the SKS rifle, not the moisin nagant. The SKS's bayonet swings out from below. The Mosin Nagant M44's bayonet swings out from the side.
The M44 is a carbine derivitive of the M1891/30 rifle and is an improvement on the M38 carbine which had no bayonet (nor any means of mounting one). I guess it bothered the Rooskies that their bolt-action carbine didn't have something with which to spear nazis.

In the picture, you can see the bayonet folded back with the tip being just below the rear sight.
The bayonet is just a black spike, not a bladed affair like on many other guns.

While I did amend my statement slightly in post number 102, my information comes from The Speer Rifle and Pistol Reloading Manual Number 12, page 329-332.

If you want a .30-30 (which of course neither the M1 carbine nor Mini-30 is), try a Marlin M1984 lever action.

The 308 corresponded to a major advance in smokeless powder which came in 44; it didnt need as much powder to get the same ballistics as the 06. What I was saying was that if you load that 30-06 case up full with modern propellants, its likely to generate more pressure than a Garand rifle was designed for.
It really depends which powder you use. I can fill a 30=06 case full and packed down with 870 and it will fire normally. I can take a m1 carbine and fill it full of a fast powder and blow it up. Powders come in very slow to very fast burning.

Well, my book says american 30 calibers are either .308”, .3085”, or .309”. The british 303 is .312”
And they are not interchangeable.

It's the principle of the thing. If I had never gotten a Mini-30 I would still be buying Rugers. The biggest disappointment I ever had in a gun was that Ruger. I've been surprised at how many people I knew just threw those rifles in the closet and forgot about them.
My Commie made AK-47 and SKS shoot tighter groups than my Ruger Mini-30 rifle. Ruger should be ashamed. They turned a wonderful concept into poop.

You could give them a call, and who knows? If you're reasonable polite, they might be willing to do something for you.

I will cheerfully read your book if you will supply the title and author.

I have a buddy who shoots 338 all the time. I have taken turns with it silhouette shooting. It is very accurate. The weapon has had very little done to it.

Do you want to calm your Mini-14 down? if so answer these questions for me.
Is it good for the first cold round and then does it get worse as you shoot each subsequent round?
Have you very carefully inspected the sight mounting on the rear sight?
Look for looseness in left right adjustor.
It you have a scope did a smith mount it or did you?

I’ll give you several.
A catalog for speer rifle bullets...any one will do
A catalog for hornaday rifle bullets...any one will do
A book with exact dimension and drawings of rifle cartriges...title: “Modern Sporting Rifle Cartridges”, by Wayne Van Zwoll.
The british, russian, and japanese 30 calibers are roughly equivalent(.311 or .312) and can be interchanged with eachother, but NOT with the american 30 calibers, which are usually .308.
Additionally, you can look up these calibers on wikipedia and see the case, bullet, and cartridge dimensions there.
30-06 springfield
308 winchester
7.62 NATO
30-30 winchester
30 carbine
300 savage
30-40 krag
307 winchester
300 winchester magnum
300 weatherby magnum
Then compare those bullet diameters to these:
7.62x54R
7.62x39
303 british
7.7 jap(aka 7.7x58 arisaka)

I have a Ruger mini 30 and the thing is a real POS. It jams every few rounds, no exceptions. I’ve tried changing ammo, magazines, and anything I can think of short of grinding the chamber
