1. It’s fair to ask about candidates’ health issues.
2. If Barak Obama were a white man and had bluish lips, we would think he was becoming cyanotic and had a very serious health problem involving oxygen deprivation of some sort—COPD, constrictive airways disease, heart failure, etc.
3. Barak Obama is not a white man—at least, not entirely. His lips naturally have a dark purplish pigmentation. This is often seen on people with his particular skin tone and racial/ethnic background and it’s not indicative of respiratory or circulatory disease.

I seem to recall some national politician during a debate or speech or something and a physician watching on T.V. noticed something and called his campaign folks, etc. Turned out it was a medical issue. Probably within the last 20 years?

Sickle Cell trait — carrying one sickle cell gene. He could be susceptible to hypoxia and dehydration causing mental confusion. Uh, Uhhhh, Duh! He better not be making command decisions in Air Force One at 35,000 feet.
