Now that many of the technologies these films predicted are finally here, the declining cost of making thought-provoking indie films (not with Hollywood budgets!) will make many of these stories filmable at last.

Or an elite team responding to a cyber-attack on the electrical grid? John McClane already took care of that one ...

I'm sure you're right about the heavy-handed preachiness which will guide the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still." I imagine they'll do the same with "Death Race 2000." Both are works that stand on their own. One reason I hate Hollywood is for the frequency that they go back to the well and re-work great films and suck the soul out of them.
By the way, Star Trex XI is coming out next May, featuring Kirk, Spock, Sulu, and Scotty played by young actors. As an earlier poster pointed out most sci-fi is really better classified as futuristic-fantasy given the complete lack of science. Maybe Trek will be better in this regard if it harkens to the original series' sci/tech morality plays, but I have my doubts.

When the sci fi channel first came on the scene I thought we were going to see lots of old sci fi flicks from years gone by but it is a bust. Nothing but c and d movies lousy acting not worth a dime!
