NEW YORK - Fans of the Fox drama "24" will have to wait until next January to see Jack Bauer again, this television season's most prominent casualty of the Hollywood writers strike.
The network has committed to air a full season on consecutive weeks, and had been planning to start last month. But if it had started airing new episodes soon, the season finale would not have taken place until the summer, when TV networks rarely show their high-profile programs.
Even though eight episodes for this season had already been filmed before the beginning of the writers strike, producers would have had to ramp up production soon to complete the season.
A January 2009 start seemed the best way to comply with viewers' wishes that a season's episodes run without interruption to conclusion, Fox said on Thursday.
The company that produces the series, 20th Century Fox Television, also confirmed that creator Joel Surnow was leaving as one of the executive producers. Fox is owned by News Corp.
Surnow told Daily Variety that he had "decided it was time to see if there were other opportunities I wanted to pursue."
Uhh, I think it had more to do with Keifer being in jail than the writer's strike.
I would have loved to see it through the summer, especially since summer programming sucks!!

The writer's strike and the impact on the local economy.
I got so sick of the silly personal feuds of the CTU employees and their incompetence, I started to root against CTU. They I found out they hired that kook leftist Garafalo and I lost interest in the program entirely.
Think Keifer can stay sober and out of the poke that long?
back to the race. 2 laps.
I don’t know, He better or 24 is toast.
He’s on probation for awhile as well so he has a pretty narrow path to run, for all the moolah he pulls in as Jack, it would behoove him to be a good little boy.
He cetainly has the geeters to do it..
That and the fact that Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe OBrian) is pregnant and starting to show. Which means that the producers would either have to reshoot the first 8 episodes that they already have "in the can" or find some way to hide her condition.
Course, with Keifer being in jail, they have a reason to hold off shooting the remaining episodes until after Mary Lynn delivers.
BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I need my Power Hour of Bauer.
Time to reminisce over DVD’s and adult beverages
I think I have an even longer wait—I don’t plan on watching it all with all the PC cr*p they’re throwing into this thing, up to and including Jeanine Garafolo. The libs couldn’t kill it off, so they made it so maudlin no would watch. Good work. Postpone until 2099 and I could care less.
