My husband and I were watching the poodle last night with our mastiff snoring loudly at our feet. Hubby thinks the Poodle Society of America (is there such a thing?) is “buying” the wins- they always seem to do well. I’m looking forward to the working dog class tonight...

Poodles are wonderful smart dogs. I've had two over the years, but the Poodle hair cuts in dog shows are not attractive.

I love both breeds. There is always political stuff behind shows. Having never been to Westminster; I don’t know; but I do know there is in the smaller shows. One girl I know brings all her puppies when they are ready to show with their new co owners and wins all of the time. She isn’t even a member of this organization; but walks away with the prizes anyway. She has also used illegal clickers in the ring and all kinds of things; but since she brings a lot of dogs; they let a lot of things slide. And that’s not even a tenth of what she does. She lets her son go to my dogs crates and tease and excite them before shows; that is; until we put a stop to it. It’s nice when you bring home the blue; but it’s not everything. Working on their championships are the most important and playing fair.

I have only questioned one time. That was when a judge stopped the show to show my handler how to show one of my dogs. LOL He may have been showing him like you would a pointer or bloodhound which is entirely different than they were doing last night. I just casually mentioned my handler had bred, raised, trained and showed a world cup champion dog which there only a few like single digits. To date; I haven’t heard a word. A world cup championship is as high as you can go in the dog world, btw.

I would think Westminster would be fair; since there is so much money riding and there is usually no money in the smaller shows. The thing you have to worry about is keeping your dog safe in the big shows. If you are winning too much; someone may try to make your dog sick. My groomer was showing a cumberland spaniel and this dog was winning everything. A really beautiful dog. Collasped right in the middle of the show ring. Someone had tried to make him sick. Took him to a human hospital. He is alright. Too bad the people didn’t realize this cumberland spaniel was owned by two sisters from Columbia. I wonder what happened to the people that tried to make him sick. LOL

Anyway, winning the blue is fun; but having a good time is the best. I love to see my guys running around the ring.

I liked the mastiff that was out there. I am sorry Angus didn’t come up; but this is his first time and he did great just getting there. That English mastiff out there was a big one; wasn’t he?
