I saw the Mark Howe incident (live) and I still have a fear of charging too hard toward the net even though they changed the design.
We were about 5 rows up just to the left of the goal he got impaled on.

I saw it after I got home on NHL Network...a very scary and sobering momment. Hopefully, it was a clean cut that can be repaired fully.

Thanks for the ping, but I can’t read this thread. My husband was telling me about it last night and I started to faint. I’m such a girl. I cry and faint at the drop of a hat. ;-)

"When you see something like that, it isn't about playing anymore. Say what you want, hockey players (in general) are some of the classiest guys in sports.

From the bureau of pointless Malarchuk-incident trivia: upon seeing it, three of his teammates vomited and 2 people in the arena had heart attacks. True.

Neck guards in USA Hockey are optional. If this isn’t a reason to make it mandatory, I do not know what is. We sent out an e-mail today to all our families telling them that neckguards are now mandatory for our organization.

Off topic, slightly -- but in the comedy
Blades of Glory there is mention of a ice-skating move called "The Iron Lotus" which had ended up with very similar results...
Prayers up!
