TORNADO WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEMPHIS TN 521 PM CST TUE FEB 5 2008 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MEMPHIS HAS ISSUED A

* TORNADO WARNING FOR... DESOTO COUNTY IN NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI... NORTHERN FAYETTE COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE... SHELBY COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE...

* UNTIL 600 PM CST

* AT 521 PM CST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM PRODUCING A TORNADO NEAR WALLS...OR ABOUT 7 MILES WEST OF HORN LAKE...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 55 MPH.

* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO LYNCHBURG...SOUTHAVEN...WHITEHAVEN... SOUTHWEST MEMPHIS...DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS...OLIVE BRANCH...MIDTOWN MEMPHIS...SOUTHEAST MEMPHIS... FRAYSER...GERMANTOWN...COLLIERVILLE... BARTLETT...ELLENDALE... MILLINGTON... LAKELAND...EADS...ARLINGTON AND SOMERVILLE.

.IN ADDITION TO THE TORNADO...THIS STORM IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING GOLFBALL SIZE HAIL AND DESTRUCTIVE STRAIGHT LINE WINDS.

.IF NO BASEMENT IS AVAILABLE...SEEK SHELTER ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF THE BUILDING IN AN INTERIOR HALLWAY OR ROOM SUCH AS A CLOSET. USE BLANKETS OR PILLOWS TO COVER YOUR BODY AND ALWAYS STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS.

My aunt is in a retirement community a few blocks from that Sears. I better try to call, but most likely they have them in the hallway.

Wow. Hope this isn’t a major disaster for Memphis.

So scary. My daughter and whole family are in Bolivar, Hardemon Cty. Looks like the tornadoes are going straight up 60 from Memphis to Jackson.

Murray, Kentucky looks to be in serious trouble now! Very strong couplet heading straight into Murray.
Just north of there, add Benton, KY to that as well. Possibly two large tornadoes on the ground within 25 miles of each other!

(Memphis 2/5/2008) While a tornado warning was being issued in Memphis, people were seeing a funnel cloud in Shelby County.

5:48 pm A viewer tells us there are trees down and homes damaged in the Brunswick and Pleasant Hill area.

5:49 pm Dennis Turner reports extreme damage to a warehouse area behind the Kroger on Stateline Road. There may be people trapped. See the pictures below.

Greg Rowsey of Rowsey Furniture reports a damaged roof to his business and worse to others.

6:04 pm From a wreg user: “My girlfriend is locked in dark Southaven movie theater with 100 terrified children.”

6:12 pm Mason, TN “My son call to let me know they were okay but the Garage workshop just 25 feet away from his house was destroyed. There is a lot of Damage. He lives on Pickens Store Road.”

6:15 A News Channel 3 photographer reports severe damage to the Hickory Ridge Mall, specifically the Sears building.

“Mass damage” has been reported with this cell and calls have gone out for additional emergency responders to head to the Oxford area, according to WMC-TV Memphis.
