TORNADO WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEMPHIS TN 521 PM CST TUE FEB 5 2008 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MEMPHIS HAS ISSUED A

* TORNADO WARNING FOR... DESOTO COUNTY IN NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI... NORTHERN FAYETTE COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE... SHELBY COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST TENNESSEE...

* UNTIL 600 PM CST

* AT 521 PM CST...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM PRODUCING A TORNADO NEAR WALLS...OR ABOUT 7 MILES WEST OF HORN LAKE...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 55 MPH.

* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO LYNCHBURG...SOUTHAVEN...WHITEHAVEN... SOUTHWEST MEMPHIS...DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS...OLIVE BRANCH...MIDTOWN MEMPHIS...SOUTHEAST MEMPHIS... FRAYSER...GERMANTOWN...COLLIERVILLE... BARTLETT...ELLENDALE... MILLINGTON... LAKELAND...EADS...ARLINGTON AND SOMERVILLE.

.IN ADDITION TO THE TORNADO...THIS STORM IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING GOLFBALL SIZE HAIL AND DESTRUCTIVE STRAIGHT LINE WINDS.

.IF NO BASEMENT IS AVAILABLE...SEEK SHELTER ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF THE BUILDING IN AN INTERIOR HALLWAY OR ROOM SUCH AS A CLOSET. USE BLANKETS OR PILLOWS TO COVER YOUR BODY AND ALWAYS STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS.

I read that the polls closed early in Memphis and some of these other areas. I wonder if that affected the outcome much?

I agree that this thread should be in breaking news until the tornado watch expires. Which at the time of this post is midnight central time.

This bodes ill for tomorrow for me(I live near DC). We could use the rain, but tornadoes we do not need.

Not kidding. It’s on the Commercial Appeal website. Guess the cops are too busy directing traffic, helping to free trapped people, etc.

Tornado Warning for Shelby County again right now...sirens going off. This second line coming from Arkansas appears meaner than the first line. On Channel 5 they are showing the strike that was 6-10 miles West of me...This has been a bad night.. A trailer park in Theo, West of Corinth, was leveled.
