Class of 2008 2:45 PM MT NFL.com
The six-member Class of 2008 is linebacker Andre Tippett, offensive tackle Mark Zimmerman, wide receiver Art Monk, defensive end Fred Dean and cornerback Darrell Green. Senior nominee Emmitt Thomas was the sixth and final selection.
Green was in the ballroom behind us, with Redskins owner Dan Snyder and a group of family and friends. When his name was announced, you could here a loud-but-muffled cheer coming from the back room. Pretty cool.
"This is incredible," said Green as he nearly broke down in tears at the podium. "It's just so special. I just want to thank God. I know you hear guys say that in a flippant way. But this audidence here in front of me and at home, you all know that, as a person, when I say 'Thank God' I really mean it. ... This literally transcends football."
Just spoke to a close friend of Carter, who was downstairs here at the media center in Phoenix when he learned that he didn't make the cut. He reportedly was "devastated."
And they will do it knowing that a 3rd degree black belt wouldn’t be able to kick their ass for doing so...
Bob Hayes was faster, but Green was, I think the fastest man on the field at the time he was playing.
Hayes was the world's fastest human. Even after his Olympic record was broken, in one respect he was still faster. Hayes was slow out of the blocks. When he reached his full speed, his highest rate of speed was still faster than the guy who broke his record.
