You're right, good lyrics. Makes you wonder at the subsequent fall of both of them after the breakup to the likes of Uncle Albert and Imagine, for example. But then it happened to other songwriting pairs, King/Goffin (Carole's post-breakup whining), Bacharach/David (Burt's subsequent partners' pedestrianism), and so on.
