Crystalline Garden
Phil Geusebroek

The rising steam from a boiling kettle
Created a mist that cooled and settled
Ice crystals formed from the moisture
Upon a winter window pane of grandeur

Hot water was poured slowly into a teapot
Adorned with hand painted forget-me-nots
Teabags steeped freeing a hue of brown-red
As the iridescence of a pearl moon was shed

On fanciful crystals magically bursting forth
With sprays of sparkling frozen fireworks…
Others appeared as precious leaf-like gems
Growing on branches outward from stems

Translucent frosted glass diffused the night sky
Silhouetted trees were barely visible to the eye
Closely observing; exhaling with a puckered thaw
Warm breath made a portal through the frosty awe

Blowing snow was apparent through the peek hole
The comfort of a warm cup reassured and consoled
